Per usual to these things, neither of the more powerful clans thought much of the problem because of their arrogance. While circumstances may have forced his hand a little soon, the rush to freedom was soon joined and the Wolf, Serpent, and Lotus Clans were suddenly at war. Not if young Grayback had anything to say about it anyway.įor seven years he planned the violent and thorough return of the Wolf Clan to freedom. Yet they weren't about to lay down and die.

So the creepy peepy Lotus enslaved the Wolf in their shale mines. The Wolf were allowed to live there in peace for a little while, but seeing as they were of lower intelligence and greater strength, it really only made sense that they be shoved into slavery. They miscalculated a little and somehow ended up smack in the middle of the Serpent and Lotus Clan territories. So when the grace of nature ran out (a gigantic storm threatened to make their home go the way of Atlantis), they were forced to do whatever they could to survive, in this case, their druidess order had to use their sacred Totem of the White Wolf to send them to another safer land. They rely not on science, but the grace of nature and their own fortitude to survive. The Wolf Clan, the bruisers of the Battle Realms universe, used to be a completely peaceful folk that lived in concert with the land on their own little island paradise. It follows the story of the Wolf Clan and their history of flight from their homeland and eventual slavery that was really only hinted at in the first game. Winter of the Wolf takes place before the events in Battle Realms. What I was hoping would be a great addition turned out more average than anything else. Unfortunately, Winter of the Wolf is short and filled with a mixed bag of generally easy levels despite the addition of some new units and heroes. Still, Ubi Soft decided to get behind the developer to make an expansion to the game, which I was very happy about remembering expansions such as StarCraft: Brood Wars and Age of Empires II: The Conquerors.

either way, it didn't get the sales it deserved. It somehow slipped out of view however, maybe under the haze of anticipation of WarCraft III when that game was still planned for a 2001 release. It had some great units, great play mechanics, interesting back-story, and terrific balancing. Liquid Entertainment's first game, Battle Realms was one of these. There are games that are released during the year that for some reason or another, people just don't really go out and buy, no matter how many good reviews it gets from dolts like us or the word of mouth it gets from gamers.
